Free outdoor Zumba class for all! Sept 6, 7pm
Collingswood invites everyone to boogie down 1st Tuesdays
Borough hosts free outdoor Zumba class on Powell Lane
Zumba is everywhere – including Collingswood.
The Borough will hold a free outdoor Zumba class as the second Fresh
Air Fitness event on September 6 at 7 p.m. on Powell Lane in
Collingswood. Young, old, newbies and professional movers and shakers
are welcome to come out and enjoy a free, hour long class.
The
first event in August was a hit - drawing two dozen Zumba fans to
Powell Lane and the Borough expects an even larger crowd for September.
Collingswood has added the classes part of its free, family friendly,
monthly event schedule. Each first Tuesday of the month, the Borough
will offer a fitness class outdoors on Powell Lane, free and open to the
public. The class is taught by licensed Zumba instructors and
Collingswood residents Stacey Tobe and Emily Proudfoot, who each teach
classes locally.
“It’s free – so really,
you’ve got nothing to lose but a few calories,” said Borough
Communication Director Cass Duffey. “These types of events are what
Collingswood is all about. Getting out of the house and being able to
enjoy something family friendly and different just about every week.”
Zumba
is the Latin-inspired dance-fitness program that has taken the nation
by storm. According to the Zumba Fitness website, “Since its inception
in 2001, the Zumba program has grown to become the world's largest – and
most successful – dance-fitness program with more than 12 million
people of all shapes, sizes and ages taking weekly Zumba classes…”
Check
Collingswood.com for details on upcoming Fresh Air Fitness events on
first Tuesdays. There’s no registration for Fresh Air Fitness events,
just show up in workout gear and take some time for fun and fitness. The
Borough hopes to expand the event to other types of classes and local
instructors in the future.
Powell Lane is
Collingswood’s newest street, just off Haddon Avenue which boasts a
plaza for concerts and entertainment, including the Borough’s free
Summer Mummers String band concerts on the 4th Wednesdays evenings of the month, as well as shops and dining in the town’s newest development, the LumberYard Condos.
